China Railway Electrification Survey Design & Research Institute Co. Ltd. ( hereinafter referred as EDI ), built in 1955, belonging to China CREC Railway Electrification Bureau Group, is China’s earliest design institute specialized in railway design. Now it has become a well-known enterprise in the field of survey, design, research, consulting and supervision and its design level placed in a leading position in China’s railway industry. It has design capability of 3000kmin railway main line and 400km in mass transit rail system annually, and has supervision capability of 2000km annually.  

Since more than half a century, EDI has created 7 “first” in China’s main line electrification railway history and 6 “first” in China’s mass transit rail system history, becoming a founder ofChinarailway electrification technology. During the Ninth Five-Year Plan, depending on its technology strength and service idea,EDI successfully entered Hongkong andIranmarket. Since 1984, in the main line projects and mass transit railway system projects undertaken by EDI, there are 54 projects honored Outstanding Design Award, 14 projects honored Excellent Engineering Award, 20 projects honored National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, and 3 honored Luban Prize and ZhanTianyou Prize. Among them, there are totally 69 provincial level prizes and 22 national level prizes.

Now EDI has Class A (II) Railway Industry Certificate, Class A Railway Industry (electrification discipline) Certificate, Class A Municipal Engineering (rail traffic engineering) Certificate, Class A Engineering Cost Consultation Certificate and Class A Engineering Supervision Certificate issued by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction. Moreover, EDI has Class A consultation certificate in fields of railway, mass transit rail system, hydrogeololgy, engineering measurement, geotechnical engineer, architecture, ecological construction and environmental engineering issued by National Development and Reform Commission, and Class B architecture and building industry (architectural engineering) certificate and Class B engineering survey (geotechnical engineering and engineering measurement )certificate issued by Tianjin construction commission.

In Dec. 2007, EDI was named as high and new technology enterprise by Tianjin Science & Technology Commission. In Mar. 2008, in 2007 China Enterprise Leader Informationization Summit on the theme of 500 Tops of China’s Enterprise in Information Construction,EDI reaped the laurel of 500 Tops of China’s Enterprise in Information Construction. Moreover, it was awarded both the best Informationization Strategy Prize and the Best Coordination Design Application Prize of 500 Tops of China's Enterprisein Information Construction.
