High Speed and Heavy Haul Railway

Key Technologies applied in Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway

Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway with the total length of 1318km, famous to the world for its high reliability, high safety, high train density and large capacity, was open to public and operated on June30 in2011. Since 1990s,EDIhas devoted itself to study high speed railway traction power supply technology. In 1995, High Speed Traction Power Technology Study was edited byEDIand published by China Railway Publishing House. Technical achievements such as GIS technology, transformer V/V connection technology, comprehensive automation technology and OCS key components introduced in this book have been applied in several passenger dedicated railway lines like Wuhan-Guangzhou line, zhengzhou-Xian line, Shanghai-Hangzhou line and Shanghai-Nanjing line.

From 2008 to 2010, under the support of Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Science and Technology,EDIsuccessfully researched key devices with our own intellectual property right including OCS conductor with high strength and high conductivity and 2x27.5kV GIS switchgear, which have been successfully used in Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway. In Dec. 2010, Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway created486.1km/htestspeed and the technical level was in the leading level all over the world.                                                                                                                          

High speed pantograph and OCS operation status fixed point monitoring device 

In 2008,EDIcombinedSouthwestJiaotongUniversityand completed pantograph and OCS monitoring technical scheme, producttestand manufacture, engineeringtestand trial operation, forming a complete set of technology of OCS monitor with our own intellectual property right. The expected objective was approved by sitetestand Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway line. This research achievement filled domestic blank of technology of fixed device monitoring moved pantograph and OCS, will have good application prospect. The overall technology has reachedChina’s leading level.

High speed railway OCS steel pipe support

High speed railway OCS steel pipe support mainly researched byEDIwas successfully applied in Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway line in 2008, which filledChina’s blank of electrification railway. Compared with current support, high speed railway OCS steel pipe support features beautiful appearance, convenient transportation and installation, good anti-corruption performance and simple manufacture, so it can replace current support.

Operation and administration mode of passenger dedicated railway line’s traction power supply system

This research was scientific and technological research and development planning project of MOR undertaken byEDI. This was the first time inChinato carry out system study for passenger dedicated railway line’s traction power supply system in aspects of repair and maintenance, fault repair and dispatch administration. Meanwhile, it put forward a new administration mode for traction power supply equipment’s operation and management ofChina’s high speed railway. The research achievement filled the blank of research on traction power supply operation and management mode, reaching advanced level inChina.

Guangzhou-Shenzhen200km/helectrification new technology
Guangzhou-Shenzhen200km/helectrification railway was China’s first quasi high speed railway line designed byEDIin early 1990s, with the total length of147km. It was open to public on Dec. 22, 1994. Research achievements such as traction power supply overhead crossing without intersection
, auto-passing the Neutral Section device, computer simulation system have reached international advanced level, which provided precious experiences forChina’s high speed railway and passenger dedicated railway line. Moreover, the research achievements were awarded the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2001.

Datong-Qinhuangdao one-million-ton railway isChina’s first heavy load railway designed byEDI, which experienced two-million-ton and four-million-ton electrification renovation. The “ parallel-connection power supply technology” and “on-load regulation technology” are leading level in the world. The major scientific research, Datong-Qinhuangdao line two-million-ton expansion renovation traction power supply system engineering technology research, was awarded the second prize of Scientific and Technical Achievements by Ministry of Railways

City Transit Rail system

City transit rail system overhead rigid suspension technology

City transit rail system overhead rigid suspension technology was the newest OCS technology firstly developed inChinain 1999 byEDIassociated with domestic and overseas experts under the support of Guangzhou Metro Co. It was a significant technological innovation and was awarded the Second Prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress in 2007, the Outstanding Award of Scientific Technology Prize of China Construction Enterprise Management Association in 2006, and the First Prize of Science and Technology by CREC and was honored the Ten Scientific and Technological Achievements Prize by CREC. Now the research achievements are applied in domestic city transit rail system.

Monorail straddle type OCS components technology

In June 2005,Chongqingmonorail straddle type JiaoXin line was open to public and the research of monorail straddle type traction power supply OCS components filled domestic blank. This project firstly solved principle study of monorail straddle type OCS system and firstly realized home-made OCS components. Compared with the same overseas technology, technical parameters such as products’ precision, components’ reliability, installation and adjustment precision, and current collection stability completely met the demand of operation. Moreover,Chongqinglight rail No. 2 line phase I project adopting this research achievement was awarded Silver Award of National Engineering Quality in 2007.

DC 1500V OCS component technology for mass transit rail system

DC 1500V OCS component technology for city transit rail system is a scientific research meeting the demand of localization of urban metro and light rail’s OCS components. This research was awarded Science and Technology Second Prize of CREC. DC 1500V OCS component is characterized by novel design, reasonable structure, advanced technology and convenient application, providing a low cost, safe and reliable installation mode for OCS catenary suspension installed in standard tunnel and low clearance tunnel. The comprehensive performance of products has reached advanced level of the same international products and achievements have been popularized inGuangzhouand Shenzhen etc. city transit rail system.

120km/h Urban Rail Transit System Traction Power Supply System and Energy Saving Slope Comprehensive Technology

Depending on construction ofGuangzhoumetro No. 3 line engineering which was open to public in 2005, this scientific research involves comprehensive technology research and innovation of traction power supply system, OCS and energy saving slope, including the followings:

(1)     Adopting6mstandard span, improving current collecting quality between pantograph and overhead contact system;

(2)     Settle problem of contact loss on fast running by use of overlap span with expandable element;

(3)     Adopt sinusoidal-wave shape OCS layout plan so as to make the wear of pantograph’s carbon board more even;

(4)     Mid-point anchor and suspension point are in the same point so as to enhance rigid structure’s unevenness;

(5)     Adopt energy-saving slope design scheme to reduce train’s traction power consumption and save electric energy.

This technology achievement has been used in Guangzhou No. 3 line and obtained good economic and social effects. Generally this technology is in advance level domestically and can be applied widespread.

Design platform withEDI’s own intellectual property right

Traction Power Supply Dynamic Simulation Technology

EDI has studied traction power supply dynamic simulation technology since the end of 1980s and developed traction network current distribution calculation software package suitable to AC and DC power supply system based on running chart and node method. Moreover,EDIhas finished traction power supply real time analog system established in signaling system. This software can real-time simulate operation status of all running trains in service at any time and electrical characteristics of traction power supply network at any place. Extremely improving design efficiency and quality, this software tackles many technical troubles which can not handled by hand calculation. Being an effective tool of engineering design and operation management, it is more accurate than measured data and achieves internationally advanced level.

High Speed Railway OCS/Pantograph Interaction Computer Simulation Platform

OCS/pantograph interaction computer simulation platform researched byEDIis suitable to operation conditions of high speed railway traction power supply OCS with the speed of350 km/hand above. This technology is near or up to level of western counties. This simulation platform is characterized by the followings:

1)       can simulate OCS in both simple catenary suspension and stitched catenary suspension;

2)       be not restricted by number of anchoring, span and span number, dropper and dropper space. Can carry out all-around simulation for OCS parameters and can realize simulation calculation under concentrated load condition so as to realize optimal arrangement of steady arm, electrical connector and section insulator;

3)       can carry out simulation calculation under condition of combination of several pantographs.
